Great digital tools for mental health

Updated: Oct 4, 2021

In a world where self-help books and virtual therapy have become the norm, it is nice to have tools at your fingertips that support what you have learned. Whether you are looking for guided meditation or a simple mood tracker, there is a vast selection of digital tools to choose from. Below you will find some of my personal favorites.

1. Daylio Journal: Self-Care Bullet Diary & Goals

This app is available on both Apple and Android devices. It is a very simple mood tracker that allows you to log your feelings and activities at the touch of an icon. You can set goals and monitor progress. There are also rewards you can earn for journaling and setting goals.

2. Healthy Minds Program: Meditation & Mindfulness

Healthy Minds is a 100% free, evidence based, app that teaches you how to meditate. Increase your sense of awareness, connection, insight, and purpose. You can choose the topic and length of each session.

3. Insight Timer

Though there is a paid premium version of this app, the free content is vast and of high quality. Say goodbye to your trouble with sleep, anxiety and stress. Insight Timer offers meditations, yoga classes, sleep music and talks, live events, and the ability to create your own community with family and friends.

This app is completely free and encourages mindfulness from a less traditional approach. There is no timer or guide to lead you toward any particular destination. Get lost in this virtual reality and bring the peace you find into the real world.

5. Daily Jour: Daily Self-Care Journal

Some of the best features of this app do require a paid subscription, but the most basic plan can be sufficient for the new journalist. Daily Jour offers guided journaling prompts based upon the information you provide when you check in. Also, enjoy daily motivational quotes and guided breathing.
